Drain cleaners

The mechanical drain cleaning machine, sometimes referred to as a “cable machine” or “drain auger”, is the oldest type of drain and sewer cleaning technology.

In the cable machine’s earliest form, simple flat metal tape was used to clear out drain obstructions and clogs. Flexible coil springs were later added to make it easy to navigate pipe bends and turns. These early machines were manually powered, often with a hand crank used to rotate the drain cable. As time went on, motors were added to make the task less labor intensive.

Although the basic approach to cable machines has not changed, the technology has been much improved and refined over the years. Machines are lighter and more powerful than their predecessors, cable and cutting blade attachments have become stronger and more rust resistant, and most importantly, cable machines are much safer to operate and cause fewer injuries than in the early days.

Ridgid K-400 Drum Machine

The Model K-400 offers reliable power that cleans tough everyday drain line blockages in tubs, showers and sinks. A sleek profile and user-friendly design get you up and running easily — and on to the next job quickly. Ideal for drain cleaners, service plumbers, facility and institutional maintenance departments and property management companies. Not designed to remove root blockages. Features 3/8″ (10 mm) cable best for 1 1/2″ to 3″ (40 mm to 75 mm) lines. 1/2″ (12 mm) cable best for 3″ to 4″ (50 mm to 110 mm) lines. Easy movement to and from the job site. Heavy-duty, large wheels easily navigate over bumps and up stairs.

Ridgid K-6200 Drum Machine

K-6200 machines offer superior maneuverability and a small footprint allows easy access to tight work areas. It comes equipped with either Inner Core cable or Integral Wound cable. Recommend 5/8″ (16 mm) cable for 3″ (75 mm) to 6″ (150 mm) drain lines up to 200′ (61 m). features Patented Cable Control System – Causes the drum to slow down when the blade becomes lodged in a blockage. Limits potential for cable flip over. Direct Drive Design – 4/10 HP universal motor and gearbox bear down as torque builds. Audible warnings let operator know when blockage is encountered. Drum requires no adjustments to stay aligned and tight on drive shaft

Ridgid K750 Drum machine

Versatile AUTOFEED® adjusts for either 5/8” or ¾” cable with a twist of a screwdriver. Recommend 5/8” (16 mm) cable for 3” to 6” (75 to 150 mm) drain lines up to 150’ (48 m). Recommend ¾” (20 mm) cable for 4” to 8” (100 to 200 mm) drain lines up to 200’ (62 m). Powerful, self-contained machine ideal for lateral lines. Easy to transport, minimal set-up – attach a tool and go.

General Wire Maxi Rooster

Look at the portability that goes with that power and capacity. The Maxi-Rooter rolls on 10″ ball bearing semi- pneumatic wheels and has V-belt stair climbers for easier transport up and down stairs. A truck loading wheel mounted on the handle is almost like having another person helping you when you lift the machine into a truck. In addition, we’ve made it easy for you to remove the drum if you should want to transport the Maxi-Rooter in two parts. Another important help to you is a see-through inner drum cage so you can tell how much cable is in the drum. For electrical safety, the foot pedal is air actuated, eliminating electrical contact between pedal and motor. Equally important, a ground fault circuit interrupter senses current leakage and will shut down the machine before an operator suffers an electric shock

General Wire Mini Rooter XP

The Mini-Rooter XP gives you extra portability because 8″ semi-pneumatic wheels let you keep the weight on the ground. An easy-grip handle folds down to save space and locks to use as an additional lifting handle. A roll bar protects the 1/3 hp motor when going up or down stairs. And the power cord and foot pedal can be stowed away on convenient cord wraps. The XP gives you extra performance and value, enabling you to clear clogged drain lines from 1-1/4″ to 4″ in diameter with just one machine. The drum easily holds 75 feet of 3/8″ or 1/2″ cable and features a free floating inner drum with an integral distributor tube to help prevent cable tangling. By switching to the optional J-Drum you can handle smaller drain lines. Even with the power cable feed, the drum is a snap to remove, taking less than a minute. Of course, the XP comes with an air foot pedal and ground fault circuit interrupter for safety, and General’s patented Flexicore wire rope center cable for durability.

General Wire Easy Rooter

The Easy Rooter is a tough, easy-to-use machine. It has a rugged powder coated steel frame with special “roll bars” to protect the motor and heavy-duty roller bearings in the cage for longer life and greater motor efficiency on long runs. The large cage holds 100 feet of 3/4″ or 5/8″ Flexicore® cable to clear tree roots and other difficult obstructions in 3” to 10” drain lines. A Quick-Grip™ chuck secures the cable during operation. With a just a quarter turn, the chuck tightens firmly on the cable to secure it while the Easy Rooter drives the cable into the line. Then, can be released just as quickly to pull more cable from the drum. It’s faster and easier to use than a thumb screw. The Easy Rooter rolls smoothly on big 10″ ball bearing wheels mounted on a half inch reinforced axle. A built-in brake holds the machine securely on the job or in a customer’s car during transport. An extra-long folding handle quickly locks in place, making it much easier to wheel the Easy Rooter to the job, without sacrificing the compact size needed for easy loading in a car trunk. Power is supplied by a 1/3 hp capacitor motor with thermal overload protection. A momentary contact reverse switch protects the cable by preventing the operator from running the machine in reverse for more than a few seconds at a time.

General Wire DRZ-PH-O

Light and powerful for a machine of its size, the Model DRZ-PH-O is ideal for clearing clogged sinks, tubs, and laundry drains in 1-1/4″ to 3″ drain lines up to 50 ft. long. The variable speed power cable feed gives you complete control as it feeds and retrieves the cable at up to 16 ft per minute. The four foot guide tube means you never have to touch the cable so your hands, and the jobsite, stay clean. Operate the machine horizontally on the kitchen counter or vertically on the floor next to the tub. The silent motor is powerful enough to clear the line quickly yet won’t disturb your customers while on the job. Use the pneumatic pedal to keep your hands free to control the feed and guide hose. The open cage drum carries up to 50 ft. of 1/4″ or 5/16″, or 35 ft. of 3/8″ Flexicore wire rope center cable. Units with 3/8″ cable include our five-piece HECS cutter set. Weighing as little as 30 lbs. the lightweight machine is easy to handle. Use the carrying handle on top to carry to and from the job.
